It’s spring cleaning time again. Time to deal with the mountains of books that have somehow overtaken my office. I’m sure they must be breeding, because I couldn’t possibly have bought them all. And the worst of it is, I haven’t even read most of them yet.
It’s painful for me to dispose of books, but my office is getting to the point where there’s no room left for me. This is the first pile to go. Trouble is, nobody wants them. The library won’t take them, the local hospital doesn’t want them, even the senior citizens’ building where my parents used to live and who used to love to see me show up with bags of books – they said “no thanks.” So what to do with them? Goodwill? If they don’t want them, there’s only one other option I can think of. It’ll kill me, but landfill, here they come.
Anyone have any other ideas? What do you do with your used books?
Hello, Margery! I hope you find a place to donate all of those wonderful books!! Don’t give up until you find a place! My library accepts books. Also the Goodwill near me loves getting books, so definitely try your Goodwill. Also look into Consignment shops–you’ll make a little money you can keep for a rainy day or donate to a local charity (or your library!).
I also participate in my town’s Relay for Life and there’s always a stand there that sells used books, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. You can look into doing something like that!
Good luck and I hope you find a place for all those wonderful books! Happy A to Z!
You could send loads of people Christmas presents! But you still have to wait a while for that!
This is me, Duncan D. Horne, visiting you from the A-Z challenge, wishing you all the best throughout April and beyond.

Oh no, not the landfill. Give them away. Charity shops, neighbours, friends, local associations.
There are always people crying out for books, hope yours find a good home 🙂
My office, too, has become overwhelmed by books. You just reminded me that I need to get busy clearing out some space in which to work.
